Lesson #6

Date Executed: May 3, 2016
Subject: Science
Topic: What Plants Need

For my lesson today, I took an alternative look on my usual lesson plan. I followed a more structured lesson plan for this lesson and I feel as though it worked so much better. My lesson was about plants and what they need to grow. I started off with a video/song that Ms. Jacobsen found. After the song, I invited the children to the mat, where they found a flower already taped to the board. From there, I drew things on the board that plants need (air, water, soil, and light). I would ask the students what the plants need and then we would discuss what each thing would give to the plant. After that, the students went back to their desks and wrote two sentences about what plants need. After the students completed the sentences, I brought them all back to the mat and we performed an interactive poem. I wrote a poem about a seed becoming a flower. From there, I had certain actions for the kids to do for each line.
